Forever Knight
1992-1996
1992-1996
He was bought across in 1228. Prayed on humans for their blood,.......But now he wants to be mortal again. To repay society for his sins, to emerge from his world of darkness, from his endless......... FOREVER KNIGHT!
And with those words, every week we entered the world of Forever Knight. The show, witch lasted 3 season, was based on the 1989 TV movie, Nick Knight staring Rick Springfield. It was about a police detective, who works the night shift because he is a 800 year old vampire. The setting for the weekly show was moved from L.A. to Toronto and stared Geraint Wyn Davies as Knight, Nigel Bennet as Lucien Lacroix a millennia old vampire that turned Nick, Deborah Duchene as Jeanette former lover and fellow vampire also turned by Lacroix, Catherine Disher as Natalie Lambert a forensic pathologist who is working on a way to make Nick mortal again, and John Kepelos as Lt. Don Schanke, Nick’s loveable but clueless partner.
The show originally aired on CBS as part of the network’s “Crimetime after Primetime” an alterative to late-night talk shows. But it eventually moved to cable’s USA network after David Letterman signed on to do his Late Night show in 1993. Because of this and other problems there were long delays between season, and this lead to several cast changes in the 3rd season. The 3rd season became the last when it ended in May 1996, but to this day the show still has a strong cult following and was rerun on Scifi channel for many years. It was this following that kept the show alive for so long. The first two seasons are now available on DVD with the 3rd coming soon.
According to interviews on the DVD’s the show borrowed a lot from vampire author Anne Rice, and there was even a season 2 episode called, “Stranger Then Fiction” were Nick and Schanke have to protect a Rice-like author.
